People are used to companies releasing games in a pre-release open beta which really means a demo with bugs.ĬU is in an old school beta phase. This game is a beta if you use the term beta as it was used 20 years ago. I am not in the Beta, so i will have to take your word on that, if half the game really is in concept only, then that isn't a real 'beta' its alpha, beta should mean the game is relatively complete and that all that is left is ensuring features work as intended and adjusting/fixing whatever breaks. Half of this game is still in concept mode, that is not beta. So because they are calling it beta you believe it? This is exactly my point, they are calling it something it is not. If they had released the game with a cash shop and were using Beta status as a shield to divert criticism, that would be something else.

If they had stated it was an Alpha build rather than a Beta then i would likely agree with you, but that they are stating the game is in Beta means that while the game is unfinished, it is a functional game, the game becoming 'fully' functional is afaik something that is achieved during Beta as the games functionality undergoes testing/modification. It's pretty damn questionable if they ever get to resemblance of a fully functional game period. My bet is it is still 2 years away from any resemblance of a fully functional game. After Beta 1, the game could presumably head on to a more open Early Access type affair if all goes well, eventually leading to a launch in late 2019. The beta will let participants try out building, crafting, unique classes and races, as well as a variety of events that will really test how the persistent open world handles all the actions made by the players. Since the MMO is almost a sandbox game, with building, realm control and persistence mechanics, there's a lot to cover. "Camelot Unchained" Beta 1 will cover key areas of the game that developers will build upon later. "That would be abusing what Early Access on Steam is meant to be," he noted.

It's a test of the game's very core mechanics, though, and putting it out as an early access release in this state might not be wise, as Jacobs explained. To take part in the closed beta, "Camelot Unchained" fans have to be a backer either by buying the game or getting an invite. "For those of you who may have missed out on our Monday livestream: we have officially announced the date for the opening of Beta 1, which will be this upcoming July 4th, 2018! Mark it on your calendars, folks!" Jacobs and crew also said, announcing the date for those visiting their website. "Camelot Unchained" features three warring realms in one persistent, massive, open-world sandbox environment, with towns and cities built almost entirely by the players. The announcement was made by the project heads in a live stream last week, as City State Entertainment put out the latest details about their progress for the crowdfunding backers. Mark Jacobs, who oversees the project, has announced a beta date for July 4.Īs what would be the first beta run for the sandbox-like MMO, the test run for "Camelot Unchained" in July is referred to as "Beta 1" and will be a closed beta. "Camelot Unchained," the crowdfunded MMORPG led by one of the key people behind "Dark Age of Camelot," is now having its first beta.
